The career of composer Stéphane Tesan is unusual: as a teenager, he fell in love with the music and literature of the 18th and 19th centuries: Mozart, Da Ponte, Casanova, Rousseau, Schubert, whose harmonic tonal language touched him.
Narration, tragedy and melody allow him to express his emotional universe in order to transmit his musical language to audiences.
The joyful energy of Rossini and the melancholic introversion of Schubert are inexhaustible references for him, far from academic analysis and respecting classical writing, where the melodic framework is central, and based on simple themes.
He first studied classical guitar at the Montélimar Conservatory of Music, when an accident forced him to give up his career as an instrumentalist. Convinced that he had a musical message to convey, he decided to reorient himself towards a career as a composer so that music would remain a central element of his life as an artist. He studied musicology at the Lumière University of Lyon which led to the study of tonal harmony, composition and orchestration at the Avignon Conservatory of Music in 2022.
His compositions are structured around vocal works, chamber music, symphonies and religious music.
In October 2023, during her first public professional concert in Grignan, at the Petit Palais de Chaillot, soprano Joëlle Fleury and pianist Haley Myles performed several of his Arias. His first Piano Trio was also given its world premiere by the LiberTrio.
Also in October 2023, the Budapest Symphony Orchestra (BSO) recorded two of his concert arias ("Aria à la Mozart" and "L'amour est un tourment" to a text by Marceline Desbordes-Valmore).
In April 2024, the BSO performed his Symphonic Poem on the Theme of Hope, "An Anthem for Hope", in the Ceremonial Hall of the Pesti Vigado in Budapest, to great acclaim.
Soon the Voices of the Valliant Company in Florida, USA will premiere four of his arias on texts by Susan Conti. In parallel, a new concert took place in january 2025 with the Budapest Symphony Orchestra (Hungarian dance and Symphonic Diorama).
Recently, he won prizes at composition competitions in Ukraine, Austria and Poland (including Classical Stars and Vienna Classical).
With atypical training and music inspired by the Viennese Classicism, Stéphane Tesan's compositions express his respect for the major works of the past. But, music being the reflection of a society, his writing has a modern flavor, nourished by the contemporary world.
He builds bonds of trust with performers, and brings his vision of the meaning of his works while giving the musicians the freedom they need.
Today, he is furthering his career by building relationships with orchestras, choirs and performers who will present his work to the public.
His goal: to write opera and symphonic works for public performance.
